Cookies, Frosting & Donuts: My Postpartum Weight Loss Story.

Note: Be warned! This is a pretty long read! Snacks and frequent breaks recommended...

You can also enjoy this long post with popcorn (no butter please) & a glass of lemonade (no sodas!) Enjoy! :)

I had been planning to do this blogpost since a long time now but one thing or the other has come up and I tend to forget about it. Now that a number of friends are expecting their babies and others are already trying to lose their postpartum weight I thought let's do this now!

How it all started:

It's been quite a few years now but I still remember clearly when I stepped on the (dreaded) weighing machine after coming home from the hospital. I was in a haze after so many meds, a hard labour and a tiny baby to look after.

But the momemt I saw the numbers on the machine...it was one of those scenes from cartoons when those little stars start to spin around top of the head!

I guess most girls who are having their first babies at a young age and especially who dont have their families around tend to think the weight will just magically disappear once the baby arrives...well....it's not entirely false. I have seen some lucky young women losing their pregnancy weight in two, three months...but some unlucky ones like 'moi' are not so lucky in the get fat-diet-lose-weight department.

I was merely 50 kilos at 22, when I conceievd Bubba Rayyan. That day when I came home with my new pre-term 2 kilo bundle of joy my weight was the last thing I wanted to worry about, but the number 78 looking back at me mockingly was enough to depress me further! And here I was thinking my baby would carry (if not all) atleast Most of my weight but he was tiny and I was huge...

My mom was visiting to help us with the new baby. She is a doctor and a total fitness freak when it comes to her daughters. She almost fainted when she saw me!

Thank God for mothers...I owe it all to her that I was able to lose those pesky pounds with home cooked meals, healthy diet plan & exercise time. I could not have done it, alone without her help. I owe you once again mom! Miss you...Love you ♥ *sniff sniff*

Okay! Coming back to my weight loss...Let's begin with the Weight Gain.

My pregnancy did not start off too well with nausea and too many vomits a day. As most of you readers must have read (if you havent you can read about my Nausea)

And once that nausea and frequent throwing up subsided at around four months, as most pregnant women I started to eat like anything!

I loved to have Krispy kremes, Baskin Robbins Milkshakes, fried eggas & sausages, fries, coleslaw, bars of chocolates and munched on packets of Lays and Pringles!

With the society nowadays, media hype and the pressure on young girls to be thin, women know how we spend all our lives dieting and avoiding foods that we love. Being a foody that I am, I felt that for the first time in my life I could eat all that I wanted and not feel guilty but little did I know that how hard it would be AFTER I had the baby. How hard would it actually be to lose all those pounds.

The weight gain also caused many problems. I was on high risk of GD, had SPD because of my enormous weight (Click SPD to Read More.)

I had put on my 5'3 frame in hardly three to four months! I could not walk, I used to waddle. I used to lay and eat and watch tv ALL day and I blame it all on my unhealthy food intake and lack of being active throughout my pregnancy.

I would suggest all my friends, family and readers who are pregnant or are planning: "not" to gain too much weight. It is NOT healthy at all for the mother nor for the baby. Check out Baby Centre's Pregnancy Weight Gain Guide to read more.

How To Lose it:

But all those who have already gained those pounds and are willing to lose them. The number one step to your goal weight is Motivation: You can not lose even an inch if you are not motivated. You have to keep a realistic goal in your mind, do not be in a hurry or in a rush, take it slow but keep trying. There are NO quick fixes, no yo-yo's. You have to choose a healthy lifestyle for yourself & your family. Remember slow & steady wins the race! :)

Back to "How I lost those kilos". Here are a few tips & tricks I followed; hope they would help you too.

(Please check with your doctor/physician before doing any vigorous exercises or diets-I did not breastfeed my baby so few things MIGHT NOT apply on you.)

A confident woman is always beautiful. Women always tend to over analyze themselves. We must NEVER lose our self confidence. Whether thin/fat/curvy/skinny you must always remember YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL in your own skin. If you are COMFORTABLE with your body, there is nothing better than that. These tips are just ideas and stuff I did to lose some weight. You can use them to tone up or lose the last few pounds.

Make healthier choices. Choose Wisely. You are what you eat. Switch white bread with brown, full fat with skimmed, fried with baked, grilled & sauted. Especially when you eat out. Always choose wisely.

Eat Healthy.

You are what You eat. Yes! What you put in your mouth is what actually sits & settles in your fat cells. You might be one of those few genetically lucky ones who can eat whatever they want but the rest of us HAVE to count calories. Because there IS a connection. I don't believe in: "I don't eat anything still gain weight" (unless ofcourse there is an underlying medical issue.)

You will have Mood swings. It's normal to get a little moody and easily triggered when you are making changes in your diet. But soon your body will get used to it. So whenever you feel a little edgy just relax, drink water, take a long relaxing shower or better yet 'Jog' :)

Ditch the SUGAR. Yes, folks! That is exactly what I did. People who know me won't believe that (rofl) but yes I did ditch the sugar box for quite some time. I chose Fruit over candy and water over sodas. I removed everything with the word sugar in it. I only allowed myself a few nibbles of my favourite dessert once in two weeks or an occasional indulgence over the weekend when I was eating out. But that was about it. No daily chocolate bars, no milkshakes, no fizzy drinks, no pizzas, fries, cookies, blah blah!

The tastiest foods are healthy foods. We feel that Healthy means "bad tasting", "bland", "boring. BUT it does not have to be boring! A steamed fish fillet with lemon, rosemary & thyme. Grilled chicken with baby tomatoes, lentil soups, vegetable salads, fruit salads, eggs with a whole-grain toast and fruit, Salad with tuna, chickpeas and a small amount of olive oil dressing, A bowl of oatmeal made with skim milk, topped with a handful of walnuts, Low-fat cottage cheese with almonds and sliced fruit, carrot sticks with hummus dip are just a FEW ideas I tried and they are so NOT boring. Introduce healthy foods in your lifestyle and you will love it! Not only will you loom good, you will feel good.

Count your calories at www.CalorieCount.com.

Keep a FOOD Diary. I made a food journal. I know it is tedious and tiring and time taking but it is definitely worth it. Once you start writing down everything that goes in your mouth you will know what the culprits are. But No cheating! You have to write each and everything you eat or drink or nibble all day everyday. It will be like a secrret diary with your secrets in it ;)

Don't expect to lose weight like the celebs. They have private chefs, gyms, instructors and food made according to their body types and demands. Take your time, stay motivated and don't lose hope. Be patient. Don't aim to lose lots of weight over a short period of time. A goal of one half to one pound a week is best for long-term weight loss and maintenance.

I prefer the word 'healthy eating' over 'dieting' but that also can never work alone. You 'HAVE' to exercise. You can choose to run, jog, swim,, do pilates, yoga, aerobics or even zumba. Anything that works for you. I used to walk 20-30 minutes a day and then jog 20 minutes more every alternate day on the treadmill. Work it, sweat it. Take it slow I started with 15 minutes a day and went upto 40 minutes a day, also run a little, power jog. Be active!

My motto was less salt, less sugar, less oil. I stopped bringing home chocolates, chips, crisps or anything that I ate when I was pregnant (lol). If it is in your fridge you are bound to eat it. My diet included lots of water, fruits, vegetables, fresh juices & lean meat.

Do not be obssessed with weighing yourself. Do not weigh yourself everyday. Let it be once a week or perhaps twice but not everyday. It gets depressing and disappointing to keep count of each and every kilo. Eat healthy, exercise and then weigh yourself empty stomach, first thing in the morning, once a week.

Below are few options of what I ate from my Food journal from one of those days:

Ideas for Breakfast:

Oatmeal with skimmed milk and apples.
3 egg white, vegetable- (no oil) omelette with fresh orange juice.
Fruit Salad.
Cereal with skimmed milk.
Egg sandwich

Ideas For Lunch:

Vegetable salad
Lentil soup
grilled chicken
black bean & chickepea salad

Snacks:

carrot sticks with hummus dip
cucumber sticks
a bowl of fresh fruit
corn chips
fruit and nuts
popcorn

Have a light early dinner.

Walk regularly 30-40 minutes a day. Drink 8-12 glasses of water.

Eliminate fizzy drinks, sodas, fried foods, oily stuff, sugary, syrupy & salty foods.

Best Of Luck! :)

Hope you enjoyed the post. Do share your experiences and tips to lose weight.

My Birth Story...at 35+3 weeks!

Yessssss.....SURPRISE!

Bubba Rayaan could not wait anymore...he just HAD to come out and see the world & meet his mommy & daddy! :P

It was Saturday morning 4am in the morning, DH was returning after an official trip...I was waiting patiently for him to come home after 3 long days. I laid on the sofa and suddenly...there was a gush of water, warm liquid gushed out and trickled down all over the sofa! I jumped up and the first thought that came in my mind was "MY BABY!" .....by this time my heart was literally thumping like mad, picked up the phone to call my husband and I just couldn't dial the number was shaking so bad!

Called him up and told him my water bag had burst...Silence...he was quiet for a few seconds and then he said "Iam on my way home in 10 mins..." his voice was dead......those 10 minutes were the longest ever of my entire life! I rushed here & there, changed my clothes so that we could rush to the ER immediately...DH came and we were out, throughout the journey kept praying that my baby was fine, reached hospital at 4:30 am and was taken to the ER on a wheel chair.

My doctor came asap and baby's heartbeat and movement was checked, doctor confirmed my most dreaded thoughts...my water bag had burst and HAD to deliver ASAP...baby was in distress but thank God his heartbeat got to normal soon. Lying there on the bed I looked at my husband and his face was blank...my doctor consoled us that 35 weeks was not that early and the baby will be fine.

Soon enough there were nurses all around me, my blood and urnine samples taken, oxygen mask given to me...another bad news soon came in...I had urine infection and it was REALLY high...Now there was no way out...my baby was in danger with the water bag now leaking he was open to the infection!

Soon enough i was being taken for ultrascan and I prayed to Allah...there he was, on the screen, moving...the blurry image made me cry, i felt like i was losing him...after a long wait and so many dreams I just did not want to lose my little miracle! The radiologist said the baby is healthy according to his gestational age and is 35 weeks old...but ofcourse he was tiny and smaller than  full term babies...

Later that afternoon doctor told me i was going to be induced and had to deliver very soon...dh & we were so worried...but our faith was in Allah and only HE was our last resort...only HE could do miracles!

My so called normal pregnancy which so many people envied was no longer normal! I had no diabetese, my bp was good, my hb was good, my baby was growing healthy, i had no heartburn, no constipation, had spd but it was also mild and doc said i had the perfect pregnancy...uptil now!

I had no contractions no signs of labour starting, my first induction came at 6am sunday, OUCH! no pains started...2nd induction...nothing! 3rd gave me light cramps and was 2.5 cm dilated...then 4th on monday 12 pm triggered harder cramping...that had to be my last one because i cud not go overdose!

2pm monday, had lunch because doc said i needed the energy to push later when contractions started...3 days, me & my baby were monitored closely, CTG every 4/5 hours, bp, temptrature, sugar levels, urine tested, antibiotics, salts and sugars needled through me plus steroids injected for baby's lung maturity. I felt punctured all over! Continously leaking fluids and blood..all night listening to the heartbeat and counting baby movements, praying for the courage, the patience and the strength to make it through...

Monday 6pm my contractions started, was rushed to the delivery room, the time had come, i was sweating...DH was tensed...i was told i could opt for epidural and/or just plain gas n air or a light sedative...i opted for nothing but soon enough i was screaming for epidural and even begged my husband i wanted a C-section!

Nurse calmed me down and consoled it will be all over soon, she injected me with a mild sedative...at 9:45 pm after 4 hours of painful contractions,I heard him cry...the nurse laid him on my chest and he squirmed around. I couldnt believe he was finally there...right infront of me...all red, white and so small...hardly 5 pounds!

I called my family 2 tell the good news as they were all so worried back home, I just could not take my eyes off my baby boy as they took him to the NICU...now he is home and has jaundice, every little squeak scares me and doc said i will have to work really hard with him...once again I pray to Allah for giving me strength to make it through!

Thanks to everyone for wishes and prayers :)

The Joys And Wonders Of Pregnancy...through my eyes :)

you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the loo...again & again & here we go....again!

you need some support just to roll over or change sides in bed

you can cry anytime anywhere, infront anyone! Ohhh...Just pass me the tissues please!

you lay in bed with 10 pillows under you...and....it is comfortable!

you think a lot as to whether u wud b a good mother & would you be able to cope with the stress that comes along with the new baby, the responsibities

you wait for those first time flutterings, movements anything...then assuming that gas might be the baby moving!

you wait for hours just to see that one kick, bounce punch ANYTHING inside your tummy wch consoles you that your baby is just fine

you are hungry ALL the time...yes and by hungry i mean...when I want a tall glass of milkshake with extra hot sauce, walnut toppings. After all baby needs calcium from the milk and icecream!

you hated donuts once upon a time but now all of a sudden u crave warm, fresh from the oven...Krispy Kreme!

you never thought you would eat raw pickles...but suddenly you have jars of pickeld carrots, picled onions and in my case pickled wild cucumbers...!

you look at other babies more closely than before thinking and often wondering for hours how your baby would look like....hmmm...more of mommy genes or daddy genes?

you lose your walk...and start waliking like a...ok that is not a walk...waddle like a duck cum penguin and still look cute!

you find flip flops and sneakers much more comfortable and forget that you once owned 4 inch hig heels

you are more comfy in nighties, pyjamas and clothes you would never be caught weraing!

you watch a baby cry at the subway and your heart cries out for the baby which is not even related to you

you see a baby across the street in a stroller and you quickly fantasise yourself in the mother's position with the stroller and your baby in it...ahhhh what a sweet fantasy!

you make budget lists of what to buy for the baby but go to the baby shops and just go overboard...the baby stuff is just too cute to ignore!

you tell everyone who cares to know that you're expecting!

you wake up late at night with the baby kicking inside and still smile!

you start to see your family as no more a couple but a 'family'

you can no more see your feet....you can not see them but yes they are swollen!

you were no science student but all of a sudden words like SPD, LMP, PGP, GTT, EFW, FBC etc begin to sound familar.

you wait in long lines & in the waiting room just to hear a heartbeat

you cant wait to see even if it is just a small & blurry image at first of your baby moving inside

you start collecting pinks and blue the second you know it's a boy or a girl

you hate drinking milk or eating veggies but for this life growing inside, you find substitutes and supplements for him/her to grow healthily

you give up on a lot of things u enjoyed just for the sake of your unborn baby

you are ready to go through all the pain that no man can ever imagine!

you are constipated and wonder how will I be able to push out something a size of a water melon when i cant even poop!

you have back pain...sometimes LOTS of it

you have this new found gratitude for your own mother for going through all of this and that

you are far from you pre pregnancy, fitness freak, size 2 body...but still happy!

you become teary eyed just looking at a Johnson's baby shampoo advertisment on tv!

you yearn to hold your bundle of joy in your arms and count each and every single day till the day he/she arrives!

you think twice before bending to pick up that fallen sock!

you dont shop for anything but baby stuff these days...ohhh, that designer diaper bag doesnt count, after all it will be used for my baby!

you want more of those cute maternity wears while you husband rolls eyes thinking why does she need those tents...ahhh...men!

you cook and eat with that extra special care just so that nothing you eat or drink may harm your baby

you talk to your tummy all day long and jump with joy when the little one responds!

"ahhhh there are loads more joys of pregnancy...maybe will update later..."

34 weeks & mommy cravings!

Your baby has reached nearly five pounds this week and is almost 18 inches long! Your baby has bulked up like the average cantaloupe.

Hiya...My 34th week started today and am so happy that my Bubba is almost 5 pounds! He is putting on pounds and so is mommy...cant stop craving french fries, chocolate bars, chocolate glazed & fresh from the oven donuts, Baskin Robbin milkshake.Ooofh!

Bad, bad mommy!

I think he is till breech, his head has not engaged although he does feel further down below than the past weeks but not head down entirely...still waiting for that...

Apart from that, went to Mothercare the other day and saw this "lovely" moses basket in blue and cream, instantly fell in love with it...so cuuuute! I was wondering if it lookes so cute empty how adoreable would it look with a baby in it...awwwww!

And yesss how could I forget adding that the stage of swelling like a whale has finally arrived, it started late this week and my feet dont fit my shoes! My rings are all tight and I had to rub cream to take my bracelets off last night!

3 stone...yikes!

Visited the doctor yesterday for my spd pain and also to ask her why was I waddling like a duck, and she very sweetly replied (Ok...not so sweetly...!) that I may have stood for long hours or jumped up the stairs or walked faster than I should have...I said NO to all of these things and then she looked at my reports and pointed out the 'ugly but true' fact that I had put on 20 kgs...3 stone...44 pounds...Yikes!

Okay, looking at me I dont look like I have gained 3 stone except the bum and tum part! But it really came as a shock that I had piled up so many pounds in a matter of weeks!

Reality check missy...33 weeks and 3 stone! Ahhhhhhhghhhhh!

July 11, 2008

33 weeks and SPD...?!?!?

Your baby is proportioned like a pineapple when it comes to weight -- a little over 4 pounds. (Length: more than 17 inches, head to heel.)

Only 49 more days to go...did YOU hear that...? 49 days...7 weeks...less than 2 months!!!!

Ahhh...now the countdown has begun although just when I thought my pregnancy was perfect, the joys of pregnancy are appearing one by one!(although I did vomit a LOT in the first trimester but my 2nd trimester was just wonderful!)

I have leg cramps are a norm now, getting out of bed is like...dont ask...I literally roll out of bed...it all started one sunny Sunday, my thighs and the pubic nerves wouldnt let me walk...climbing stairs is HELL...and now I have been told that I 'may' have pelvic girdle pain (PGP) also called symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD).

Noooooo...how am I supposed to walk? There is sooo much shopping to do, I have to set up the nursery and get so many things for my Bubba and Iam unable to walk from one room to another... I dont walk now I waddle like a duck!

Will be going to my doctor tomorrow insha Allah and ask her if there is ANY thing I can do to ease the pain....who said pregnancy was going to be easy!?!?!?!

July 4, 2008

32 weeks and no GD...Yipeee!

Your baby is taking up more and more space in your uterus and weighs as much as a large jicama -- about 3 3/4 pounds. (Length: about 16 3/4 inches, head to heel.) chicken pasta :)

This week your baby is close to the 4 pounds, 17 inches mark, so it pretty much makes sense that you feel massive. In the latest womb reports, your amazing baby has now developed sensitivity to temperature!

Surprise! Your third trimester symptoms aren’t going away yet. (tell me something i dont know!). If you just got back from peeing, you already know that your bladder is nearing non-existent-land.

Yayyyy! I had my blood and urine tests yesterday and Alhamdulilah all is fine there, though the doctor did say I wasn't drinking enough water and asked me (ordered) to drink MORE water plus my hb was 13 when we started and it has fallen a bit and the doctor and my DH are not happy about it because i have a history of anaemia...I have to take more iron & leafy veggies and more meat...(ummmm!)

But the happiest news of the day is GTT was all fine...I dont have GD (gestational diabetes)...haaaaaa...! I was so scared, 'cos it runs in my family and I was also a heavy baby at birth...but thanks to Allah, my tests are all clear :)

Ok then going to cook now...making pasta with minced chicken and bell peppers (yummm).

Ciao

July 2, 2008

Scrrrrrrrratch....Ouch!

Oh my God....Iam so itchy all over! And yesss the lovely stretch marks are here...finally! I was so proud that I didn't have single mark on my tummy and just yesterday I saw the badges of honour ;) heehee!

And don't even start me on the itching...my legs, my tum, my bum all over...I apply cocoa butter all over to get some soothness.

Just the other day DH was looking at me with a weird look on his face and I was like "what?" and he innocently asked why I was scratching like a cat!?! LOL

June 27, 2008

31 weeks :)

Hosted a dinner last night for friends and was tired of standing all day, cooked aalu qeema (minced chicken, with potatoes, bell pepper and chilli), haleem (pulses and chicken), chicken tandoori and zeera rice. For dessert I served Malai Kulfi with almonds and pistachio.

Dinner went fine and was fun but at night just as I was catching up on the missed episode of Desperate Housewives...there was severe and sudden tightening in my stomach. DH had already gone off to sleep...kind of ran upstairs to tell DH, I was in pain and by the time I reached our bedroom I was literally in tears! Not only was I in pain but was finding it hard to breathe. And my sweet Bubba was not making it any easier for mummy, at that very instant he started kicking my ribs and seemed as if he was putting pressure on my lungs!

DH woke up and got worried...I laid down and in 15 minutes felt a little better.

Today morning am feeling all fine and yeah my 31st week started today :)

This week your not-so-little miracle is getting closer to the four pound mark and is now nearly 17 inches in length. The fat's still rolling in quite steadily and will continue to do so for the next weeks. And you're probably getting your first taste of Braxton-Hicks contractions now and then, but don't worry, they're false contractions.

Hmmm....Braxton-Hicks, I think I got my first taste of 'false contractions' last night...if those were false I just wonder how painful the real ones would be...?!?!? :(

June 24, 2008

Happy Third Wedding Anniversary To Us :)

Ahhhh...3 years...cant believe it...24th June 2005...this was the day we said "I do", hehehe...me the blushing bride and my DH as usual with the mischevious look in his eyes :)

We have definitely come a long way hope we continue like this and even better in the future... Bubba Rayaan is also all excited for his mommy daddy today! :D

June 21, 2008

10 more weeks to go....WOOHOO!

At this point you can almost see the finish line and your little darling is getting chubbier every day. Right now they're a little over 15.5 inches in length and nearing 3 pound! You might be feeling a bit clumsy as pregnancy hormones have loosened your joints.

Yayyyyy! My baby is almost 3 pounds, almost size of a cabbage! Only 10 more weeks to fo IF I go upto full 40 weeks....cant wait!!! Bubba Rayaan is kickboxing inside mommy's tummy and his kicks are getting stronger day by day...masha Allah...

Trip to Bahrain

Wow what a week! DH had his meetings in Bahrain and so I tagged along with him...knowing that otherwise I will be stuck at home for the week and bored with all the pregnancy tiredness..so off we went!

It was niiice for a change, being pampered 5 star service, with a wonderful breakfast buffet...(I so needed that!) and the shopping! brought lots of stuff for my Bubba...mostly clothes ... I know it's about time I should start buying things 'apart' from clothes but cant help it...Just cant keep my hand off those cute blue outfits and the adoreable booties and the itsy bitsy shoes! Mommy shopped till she dropped!

Apart from baby shopping... how can I forget the Marble Slab Icecream..Yummmmmm...it is my latest indulgence...(after Baskin Robbins, ofcourse!)

Bahrain hasn't got much to offer, it's a small place but I really love the outlets there...being pregnant  makes me feel a LOT more hungrier than usual, but my tatse buds yearn for good food...Bahrain definitely offers that! Maya La Chocolaterie in Seef Mall...one of a kind! Chocolat'...ummmm!

Gourmet Bakery....ahhhhhh....

Also tried barbq fish and chicken handi and LOVED "Nirvana" an Indian restaurant in Ritz Carlton hotel. Will put up more pictures asap!

Doctor's Appointment

So finally i get to see my doctor...she was in early and we rushed to meet her, although we had to wait for 3 hours!!!! But it was worth it...she said all is going fine in there, my hb is good, urine tests came clean and the baby is the right weight, masha Allah, the movement is also good!

ahhhh the relief of hearing it from the doctor! And she gave me the blood sugar test which i have to go for next week, hoping that goes smooooothly too...

Meanwhile my 29th week started and today is 29+2, to be exact...cant waiiiiiit...Rayaan also seems to be jumping inside, ready to meet mommy and daddy! :D

June 10, 2008

June 8, 2008

Finally Caught up!

Phew! So finally I have caught up with my older posts, all the initial weeks and the progress in between. Now on this date Iam 28 weeks and 2 days pregnant, 28+2, to be exact.
We have thought of a few names but come to a conclusion that we are naming our baby boy "Rayyan", it's an Arabic name, menaing "door to heaven"... I already love the name!

Hubby dear got over with his CFA exams so now he is also kinda free and we can do some shopping (heehee!)...

Still 82 days to go before our bundle of joy arrives...I can NOT wait!

Weight gain & Third Trimester!

30th May, 2008;

My third trimester....the 7th month and precisely 27 weeks finally started...!

Iam getting bigger and fatter! Already gained 12 kilos...!

Anyhooo, the good bits are...I started shopppiiiing...yaayyy!

Nothing big just small things like onesies and a few booties, though I couldn't take my eyes off the nurseries in mothercare and babies'R'us...but still waiting to get the big stuff. There's just so much out there too many brands, too many colors, too much confusion!
Baby is fine Alhamdulilah...at times he is slow at times movements are frequent but overall good kicking masha Allah!

And growth wise my baby is the size of a cauliflower now, almost 2 pounds in weight and 14.5 inches long.

Can't wait for my next appointment because Iam going to have the blood sugar test and Iam kind of scared because diabetes runs in my family and so far I have managed to avoid it ... but now with all the weight gain am really worried... I have heard really scary stories about pregnancy and gestational diabetes...Anyhow keeping my fingers crossed.

15/05/08...First Scan...

okay....woke up early, literally jumped out the bed...! All excited to get ready to see my baby...while DH was completely normal and walked here and there casually... (men!)

Appointment was at 12 noon and we hurriedly rushed out 'cos were running late...reached hospital and sat on the couch waiting patiently while the waiting room was filled with women carrying babies, sitting next to me was a proud mum of twins! Simply adoreable just looking at them made me teary eyed...! Bliss!

Finally we were called and had my first scan...phew!

The doctor was really sweet and asked me if this was my first baby and if I knew what I was having...I had a gut feeling (people had been telling me and my hubby also thought) that I was having a girl...
Finally she squirted the jelly on my belly and the fun began It's a boy!

Those were her first words....uhhhh...couldn't believe it and then finally saw...he wasn't moving much but thank God all was well inside...touch wood!

A lot of medical terms we couldn't understand but as much as we could we did and the rest , we asked a LOT of questions and I recommend everyone to do that...the doctor was nice enough to answer and explain every single detail.

By the way my EDD also changed from Sept.3rd to August 29th 2008...ahhhh...can't hardly wait......!!!!!! XxxxxxX

June 7, 2008

23 weeks...

Was dying to shop for my little Thumper so finally did a little shopping on and brought small tiny stuff from the mall...not much, just few newborn clothes, though kept close check on colors and designs 'cos we still didn't know what we're having, so only brought things in cream, mint and orange!

We couldn't wait for my first scan now.

22 weeks and Thumper!

By this time it did seem just like yesterday I was puking all over the place, hated the sight of food and the next I was waiting for the bump to appear and eating like a horse, then I felt bubbles, butterflies and it was like a gold fish swimming in my tummy, stretch marks being a tension (they still are) and then I started craving strange foods and finally I felt my baby move inside of me...like a little mouse scurrying here and there sometimes a hard kick sometimes just a nudge....ahhhh...

still counting days, cant wait to hold the little bundle of joy!

Still seems like a long way to go...but am glad to know that my baby is now growing fast and is now equal to a 1 lb. bag of coffee beans!
